Abstract
Abstract
This paper discusses the journey of Sufis in the historical stage, the movement of Sufi orders as spiritual madrasas, and the characteristics of Sufi education patterned on ribâth, zâwiyah and khânaqah. The method used is descriptive-qualitative. Data collection was closed in the literature study. The results of the study show that: (1) the emergence of the Sufi movement in the history of Islamic civilization is a reaction to the hedonistic life of Muslim society which has been lulled by the world so that it forgets Allah; (2) as a religious movement, the Sufis have created a civilization for the people through various educational institutions which have become trends in the Sufi community; and (c) The characteristics of Sufi education patterned on ribâth, zâwiyah and khânaqah have succeeded in producing an institutional pattern capable of synergizing between religious and social functions, between physical struggle and mental struggle.
